About Mrs. Shonique McLaurin

Greetings, Panther Nation! My name is Shonique Gibbs McLaurin, and I am truly excited to continue serving in the Brookhaven School District as the Principal of Brookhaven High School. This is my third year as the principal, and it has been an absolute joy to serve in my current capacity.

My journey in education began in 2013 as a Biology teacher at BSH after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Alcorn State University. After several years in the classroom, I earned a Master of Education in School Counseling from Mississippi College and transitioned into school counseling. In 2020, I completed my Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, also from Mississippi College, and began serving as an assistant principal. In the spring of 2023, I was honored to be named Principal of Brookhaven High School.

At BHS, we are committed to excellence in academics, athletics, and character. Our dedicated teachers and staff work tirelessly to ensure that every student is challenged, supported, and prepared for success beyond high school. We believe in high expectations, meaningful relationships, and creating opportunities for all students to thrive. Our goal is not only to graduate students but to develop responsible, confident, and capable young adults who are ready to make a positive impact in the world.

Family is very important to me. My husband, Corey McLaurin, Sr., serves our district as a school counselor and coach. Together, we are the proud parents of three wonderful children: Corey Terelle (13), Chloe Shonelle (9), and Carmen Johnelle (4). Being both an educator and a parent in this district gives me a deep appreciation for the trust families place in us each day.

I firmly believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential. Parents and guardians, you are valued partners in your child’s education. We welcome your involvement, your voice, and your collaboration as we work together to make this a successful and memorable school year.

It is a privilege to serve as the principal of Brookhaven High School, I look forward to continuing to build on the strong traditions of excellence at Brookhaven High School and to celebrating the many accomplishments that lie ahead.

With Panther Pride,

Shonique Gibbs McLaurin
