Friday, August 4
• Go over what physical science is and requirements for the class.
• Talk about tips to be successful in physical science.
• Students will get their bellringer folder and respond to the Section focus transparency activity for section 15-1: Brilliant Sunset
• Launch Lab: Demonstration of the Distillation of Water
• MiniLab: Separating Mixtures students will predict what order soil, clay, sand, and gravel will settle out of solution. All will be added to water and mixed. The mixture will be set at the back of the class to settle undisturbed until the end of class.
• Lecture/Notes composition of matter
• Students will work in groups to complete the Reinforcement 15-1. The teacher will assist groups individually.
• The MiniLab mixture will be checked and students will complete the analysis.
Monday, August 7
• Students will complete the bellringer Teaching Transparency Activity 15-1: Substances and Mixtures
• Students will check the MiniLab from Previous day to determine the separation order and complete the lab handout.
• Working in groups, the students will complete the Guided Reading for section 15-1. The teacher will assist groups individually.
• Lab: Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures. Students will work in groups to classify several items provided as elements, compounds, heterogeneous mixtures, or homogenous mixtures
• Students will work individually to complete the Enrichment 15-1.
Tuesday, August 8
• Students will complete the bellringer Section Focus Transparency Activity 15-2: All That Glitters
• Students will work in groups to complete the Guided Reading for section 15-2. The teacher will assist groups as needed.
• Lecture/Notes: Physical and chemical properties/physical and chemical changes
• Demo: physical and chemical changes
• Students will work individually to complete the note-taking worksheet for chapter 15. The teacher will assist students individually.
Wednesday, August 9
• Students will complete the bellringer Standardized Test Practice Chapter 15 p. 66-67
• Students will work individually to complete the Chapter Review and Chapter Test (as a practice test) for chapter 15. Students may use their notes or a textbook.
Thursday, August 10
• The teacher will go over the answers to the Chapter Review and Chapter Test. Students will correct their papers and all student questions will be answered.
• Students will complete the mindjogger review game for bonus on the test.
• Students will work on guided reading with remaining class time
Friday, August 11
• Test on Chapter 15
• When students complete the test they will begin on the guided reading for chapter 17
