Monday, August 14
• The student will complete the bellringer Subatomic Collision and copy the guiding questions on to the back. The students will share answers to the bellringer questions and answer the guiding questions during the lesson
• Lecture/Notes: atomic structure and atomic models
• Guided Practice: drawing Bohr atomic models
• Students will work in groups to make Bohr models for different elements. The teacher will help groups individually.
• Homework: reinforcement 17-1

Tuesday, August 15
• The student will complete the bellringer Carbon Cat and copy the guiding questions on the back. The student will share answers to the bellringer questions and answer the guiding questions during the lesson
• Lecture/Notes: atomic number, atomic mass, isotopes, and average atomic mass
• The students will work in groups to complete a lab exercise calculating average atomic mass using mixed beans to represent the different isotopes of an element. The teacher will help groups individually.
• Homework: reinforcement 17-2

Wednesday, August 16
• The student will complete the bellringer Section 17-1 Teaching Transparency Activity and copy the guiding questions on the back. Students will share their answers to the bellringer and the guiding questions will be answered during the lesson.
• Lecture/Notes: The periodic table and the arrangement of electrons in the electron cloud.
• Guided Practice: drawing the electron configuration of an atom using the diagonal rule
• Students will work in groups to use the diagonal rule to write the electron configuration of different elements. The teacher will help groups individually.
• Students will work on the Guided Reading if time remains

Thursday, August 17
• The student will complete the warm-up activity of drawing a Bohr atomic model and electron configuration for an atom. The correct answer will be drawn on the board and all student questions will be answered.
• Lecture/Notes: Rows on the periodic table and electron dot diagrams.
• Guided Practice: drawing electron dot diagrams
• The students will work in groups to do the electron dot diagrams for assigned elements. The teacher will assist groups individually. After completion the diagrams will be arranged as they are on the periodic table (different groups did several elements in the same period and several in the same family) and the relationship between periodic placement and outer electron arrangement will be discussed.
• Homework: enrichment 17-3

Friday, August 18
• Students will work in groups to complete a review of atomic structure (# of protons, neutrons, and electrons), Bohr atoms, average atomic mass, electron configuration, and electron dot diagrams for a quiz on these skills. The teacher will assist groups individually.
• Groups will share their answers with the class and all student questions will be answered
• Students will work on Guided Reading for any remaining time.

Monday, August 21
• Quiz on Chapter 17 – Drawing Bohr models, electron configurations, and electron dot diagrams for elements.
• Students who finish will work on the guided reading for chapter 17 until everyone completes the quiz.
• Students will work in groups to complete the chapter 17 practice test covering all of the concepts in the chapter. The teacher will assist groups individually.
• The students will work on the guided reading with any remaining time
• Homework – directed reading for content mastery for chapter 17

Tuesday, August 22
• Bellringer: Standardized test practice for chapter 17
• Go over correct answers for the quiz and practice test. Answer all student questions.
• Students will compete in groups for points on the test using the MindJogger video. Groups will answer questions and score will be kept. The winning team earns a 3 point bonus on their test.
• Students will complete the chapter review using their book/notes. The teacher will assist students individually.
• Students will complete the guided reading with any time they have left.

Wednesday, August 23
• Test on Chapter 17
• Students will work in groups on the guided reading for chapter 19 after they finish the test
