• Periodic properties of elements (metal, nonmetal, metalloid behavior) and how they relate to position on the periodic table.
Thursday, August 24
• Students will complete the bellringer section focus transparency activity 19-1 and copy the guiding questions on the back of the bellringer. Students will share their answers and answer the guiding questions during the lesson.
• Demonstration flame test of copper (II) sulfate, strontium chloride, and sodium chloride. Students will decide which element produced the observed color (strontium)
• Lecture/Notes metal properties, location on periodic table, groups, bonding and uses.
Friday, August 25
• Students will complete the bellringer- question from notes on Thursday
• Lecture/Notes- students will complete notes on metals
• Students will complete reinforcement 19-1 in groups
Monday, August 29
• The students will complete the bellringer section focus transparency 19-2 and copy the guiding questions on the back. Students will share answers and answer the guiding questions during the lesson.
• Lecture/Notes the properties, bonding, groups, placement on the periodic table and uses of nonmetals.
• Students will complete Chp. 19.2 Reinforcement
• Students will complete section 1 and section 2 of the note-taking worksheet reviewing the properties of metals and nonmetals. The teacher will assist students individually.
• Students who finish may work in groups or individually on the guided reading for chapter 19.
Tuesday, August 30
• Bellringer Section Focus Transparency Activity: A Diverse Group will be completed by students. Students will share their answers and copy the guiding questions on the back of the bellringer to answer during the lesson.
• Lecture/Notes The mixed groups of elements on the periodic table (properties and uses) and allotropes such as those of carbon
• Students will complete the note-taking worksheet section 3 on the mixed groups and metalloids. The teacher will assist students individually.
• Homework: Chapter 19 Review
Wednesday, August 31
• Bellringer Teaching Transparency Activity: Carbon Allotropes
• Students correct answers to the Chapter 19 Practice Test and will discusse and answer questions for review
• Students will compete in groups in the MindJogger video quiz for bonus points on the chapter test. The winning team will be given 3 bonus points on the chapter 19 test.
• Students will work on the chapter 19 guided reading with any remaining time.
Thursday, September 1
• Test on chapter 19
• Students will complete the chapter 19 guided reading or begin the 9-weeks test review worksheet after they finish the test
Friday, September 2
• Students will complete the packet left by the teacher using their textbooks.
