Chromebooks for Student Use

BROOKHAVEN SCHOOL DISTRICT

MISSISSIPPI CONNECTS

Device Distribution

Mississippi Connects is a program to provide every public-school student in Mississippi with the technology to learn at school and at home. The unexpected need for distance learning provided Mississippi with an opportunity to reimagine the digital learning experience and create an innovative approach to getting students what they need to learn, whether in a classroom or at home.

The Brookhaven School District received 1814 new Chromebooks from the Mississippi Connects program. These devices were added to our current district inventory in order for every Kindergarten through 12th grade student to receive the technology they need to be successful regardless of where learning takes place.

9th Grade – 12th Grade: Devices will be issued to students and their parents at Brookhaven Technical Center on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and Friday, November 13, 2020 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Kindergarten – 6th Grade: Devices will be issued at a later date.

Devices must be picked up by a parent/guardian and a photo ID will be required. Additionally, each parent/guardian and student will be required to sign the board-approved Responsible Use of District Issued Technology Agreement before receiving a Chromebook. A copy of this form is available on our website for your review. You may print out and sign it ahead of time to help expedite the distribution process.

Once the device is received, the device cover is not to be removed. Removal of the cover will void the warranty and cause incurred cost to the parent. We will be launching a help desk in the coming weeks where parents can receive any needed technology assistance related to the device. Third through 12th grade students will be required to bring devices back and forth between home and school.

No fee will be charged to receive a device for the 2020-2021 school year.
