BHS Announcements Feb 5-9

BHS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

• Delicious cupcakes (*red velvet and vanilla cupcakes*) for only a $1 For sale in the Culinary Arts room located in the Technical Center. For 5 dollars you can enter for a chance to win a Giant teddy bear and candy for your valentine! Preorders and money, first come first served but must be in by Monday, February 12, 2018. Please e-mail [email protected] or prepay Saliyah Johnson or Malayka Stewart/ Tavarus Gilmore. Please include name, room number, person who collected money and Pick-up or delivery.

• Soccer Playoff games have been moved to Monday, February 5th at 5 & 7.

• Juniors interested in meeting with Co-Lin on March 27, 2018 should sign up in the attendance office.

• FCA meets in the library on Fridays at 7:30. Everyone is welcome to attend

• The ASVAB Career Exploration Program will be given on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Brookhaven Technical Center. If you are a junior or senior or undecided about your career---and interested in taking it, you must sign-up by (Tuesday) February 27, 2018. You will need to see Mrs. Balentine at the Brookhaven Technical Center , Col. Weaver or 1st Sgt. Williams to sign-up and get more details concerning the day of testing.

• Many students are undecided about their college and/or career choices when they enroll in college. Some of you might know which career you are interested in, some of you might not. Choosing a career path is a decision you can make. February is Career and Technical Education month. Brookhaven Technical Center will be recognizing Career and Technical Education month by hosting a Nontraditional Career Day, Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 8:15 a.m. in the Brookhaven High School Auditorium. This event will give you an opportunity to hear of careers that people have chosen, but for which they are considered nontraditional. All students are encouraged to attend.

• ACT TESTING ALL JUNIORS! – Tuesday, February 27th. Juniors reminder to do your best and work hard during homeroom. The ACT Jumpstart is a great program that can be very beneficial to you in improving your Math ACT sub scores.

• Brookhaven Technical Center Application for the 2018-2019 School year are available in the BTC front office. If you are interested in one of the classes offered at BTC: Automotive Technology, Digital Media Technology, Engineer, Health Science, Culinary Arts, Construction, and Polymer Science---please feel free to come by and pick up a brochure and application for details. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Porter, BTC Counselor.

• REMINDER: Cell phones should be off and out of sight during school hours (8-3:20)

• The Track Team Booster Club has added a new organization this year called the Panther Pacers (boys & girls) which is similar to the Diamond Girls. Any student that would be interested in becoming a Panther Pacer can pick-up an application in the assistant principal’s office! Deadline for application is February 1, 2018.

• Juniors interested in the Lott Leadership Institute will need to submit an application. Requirements for participation are 3.2 GPA, Good discipline and academic standing, and school approval. Dates for Session 1 are May 27-June 29. Session 2 is June 24-July 27. If you can not make these dates then you will not be eligible.

• YEARBOOK order forms are at the FRONT OFFICE WINDOW or the LIBRARY (return these with payment to Mrs. Sproles in the Library) ... OR ... order online at jostensyearbooks.com

• SENIOR ad information will be sent home sometime later this Fall.

• REMINDERS:
• Student drivers be sure to park and come in the building. You may not hang out in the parking lot.
o Bus riders must stay on campus once you have arrived.
o The street between the HS and the cemetery is closed during school hours.
o Any food brought for a student lunch must be out of the packaging if it contains a business logo.
o Students leaving campus after 3rd block, walkers have right of way.

• ACT vouchers have arrived. 11th and 12th grade students interested in receiving a free voucher should check with their counselor to see if they qualify.

• After School Detention will be held upstairs in Ms. Seals in room# 230 from 3:25-3:45.

• Students should not be leaving the cafeteria with open food and drink containers.

• No students are allowed in the building before 7:20
