BHS ANNOUNCEMENTS  1/23-27/2017

 

Congratulations Soccer teams on a great season. Both the boys and girls team were in playoffs this year.

 

Congratulations to the lady panthers on last night’s win. Boys played a tough game but came up just short at the end. Come out support both teams as the Panthers take on Natchez this Friday (1/27)

 

Congratulations to the Power Lifting team – 1st place in last weekend’s meet.

 

Congratulations to Boys and Girls Soccer – 1st place in the district and will host the first round of playoffs here – Tuesday, Jan 24th. Girls at 5 and Boys at 7.

 

BHS Track Tryouts will start Monday, Jan 30th at 3:30 at the field house. Anyone interested in trying out needs to have a physical on file.

 

Speech and Debate will have a brief meeting after school on Wed, Jan 25th See Mrs. Greer for details.

 

After school detention will be held in room 230 – Mrs. Seals for the remainder of this nine weeks.

 

Senior Mississippi Scholars, please come by and see Mrs. Risher by Friday, Jan

27th.

 

Seniors ... you can buy an ad in the yearbook. Ads MUST be paid for and emailed as a jpeg BY FEB. 10th. Detailed information on purchasing ads is now available in the front attendance office and the library. For a few more weeks yearbooks can still be ordered. Cost is $60 and order forms are also available at the front office and library.

 

Free Athletic Physicals will be given on Saturday February 4th.  Beginning Monday, January 22nd, forms will be available at the High School Office or with one of the Head Coaches of a sport.  Along with the physical packet there will be a schedule for what time students should be dropped  off and picked up that morning.  Remember all Athletes grades 9-12 that are participating in a sport this spring are required to have an up to date physical on file, as well as anyone wishing to participate next year on an athletic team.  Only those students who have a completely filled out physical packet, including parent signatures, will be allowed to receive a physical on that Saturday.

 

Anyone interested in being a Diamond Girl for the BHS Baseball Team may pick up an application in the assistant principal's office.  Applications are due Wednesday, February 1, 2017. 

 

The ASVAB Career Exploration Program will be given on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Brookhaven Technical Center. If you are a junior or senior and interested in taking it, you must sign-up by Friday, February 3, 2017. You will need to see Deborah Davis, BTC Student Services Coordinator, to sign-up and get more details concerning the day of testing.

 

Juniors who are interested in pre-med are encouraged to apply for the Mississippi State University Rural Medical Scholars summer program.  Students who are accepted will take two college-level pre-med courses at a very limited cost.  In order to apply you must have a minimum composite ACT score of 24.  The completed application packet must be completed by March 20, 2017. Please see your counselor to learn about the application process.  A flyer is also posted at the attendance clerk’s office.

 

Alcorn State Univ President - Alfred Rankins Jr. – will be here on Jan 23 rd at 8:30 in the BHS auditorium to meet with any interested BHS Jr. and Sr. students.

 

BHS varsity cheer tryouts will be held on January, 28. Anyone that is interested in trying out for the BHS varsity cheerleading squad needs to pick up a registration packet from the office. The application must be completed and returned to Mrs. McLaurin by 3:00PM on THursday, January 19.

 

Leah Greer, the recuiter from Co-Lin, will be here January 25 to meet with every senior who is interested in attending Co-lin in the fall.  She will have applications, scholarship information, and housing information with her.  Students will only be seen if they sign up.  All seniors wishing to talk to Leah on the 25th, please come by the guidance to sign up by the 24th.

 

Any girls interested in participating in the 2nd Annual Brookhaven School District Pageant need to pick up a registration packet from Coach Vinson or Coach Case.  The pageant will be in the auditorium February 4th.  There will be a mandatory practice February 3rd.  Registration forms and money are due by January 27th by 1:45.

 

Princess Ball will be Saturday, February 4th at Co-Lin for any young ladies (ages 4-15) and their fathers. There are two times to attend 5:30-7:30 and 8-10. Tickets are $30 per couple and $10 for each additional young lady. For more information visit

 

FCA meets on Friday mornings at 7:30 in the library. Everyone is welcome to attend.

ACT REMINDERS: Students taking the ACT - reminder to bring the following items:

Your admission ticket with your photo on it

A valid picture ID (cannot be expired)

A calculator

Pencils

 

After parking in the morning you may not hang out in parking lot or in your car. You must come on to campus. Once on campus you may not leave.

 

Reminder: The road between the high school and cemetery is closed during the school day. No traffic or deliveries are to be made through that road.
