WEEKLY SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES AND ASSIGNMENTS:

 

MONDAY:

 

A.) Bellringer (Students will have 5-10 minutes to work bellringer; bellringer will be

      discussed upon completion)

B.) Review: Students will complete Darwin’s Influences Map to reiterate contributions of

      evolutionary scientists.

C.) Students will take fill-in-the blank notes to differentiate among chemical evolution,

      organic evolution, and evolutionary steps to aerobic heterotrophs and photosynthetic

      autotrophs.

D.) Students will work in pairs to complete SATP2 workbook pages 281-286.

E.) SATP2 workbook pages will be discussed upon completion.

 

TUESDAY:

 

A.) Bellringer (Students will have 5-10 minutes to work bellringer; bellringer will be

      discussed upon completion)

B.) Review: Students and teacher will engage in open discussion on evolutionary classification

      to review taxonomy, Carl Linnaeus, and methods of scientifically naming organisms.

C.) Students will complete SATP2 workbook pages 287-290; pages will be discussed upon

      completion.

D.) Students will work in pairs to study flashcard questions in preparation for Evolution

            Assessment.

E) Closure: Students will complete an exit ticket to provide feedback on Evolution.

 

WEDNESDAY:

 

A.) Bellringer (Students will have 5-10 minutes to work bellringer; bellringer will be

      discussed upon completion)

B.) Review: Students and teacher will discuss 1-10 of SATP Prep Guide.

C.) Students will work individually or in pairs with flashcards to prepare for Evolution

     Assessment.

D.) DNA vs RNA test will be administered; assessment questions and responses will be

      discussed upon completion.

E.) Students will be required to complete Evidence of Evolution foldable.

 

THURSDAY:

 

A.) Bellringer (Students will have 5-10 minutes to work bellringer; bellringer will be discussed

      upon completion)

B.) Students will begin working individually on SATP2 pages 306-311.

C.) Students will engage in a game of Evolution Dominos to reiterate the evolutionary  

      contribution of scientists discussed (other units may be incorporated for SATP prep)

D.)Students will continue working in small groups with flashcards to review all competences

     covered.

E.) Students will engage in a game of Password to reiterate terms covered for SATP prep.

F.) Closure: Flashcard assessment will be graded by peers and discussed.

 

FRIDAY:

 

A.)Bellringer (Students will have 5-10 minutes to work bellringer; bellringer will be

     discussed upon completion)

B.)Evolution Assessment will be administered.

C.)Assessment questions and responses will be discussed and reviewed upon

     completion of assessment.

MATERIALS:

Pencils, paper, worksheet/handouts, pens, markers, glue, dry erase markers, Promethean, swatters and terms wall for game, flashcards with unit questions for Around-the-World and pair work, and PPT for Password game.

DURATION:

This portion of the unit will require 5 instructional days consisting of 100 minute sessions each day.

CLOSURE:

At the end of each class session, students and teacher will briefly overview material that has been covered in the day’s lesson to bring the lesson to a conclusion.

SPECIAL NEEDS ACCOMMODATIONS:

 

A.)Students with IEP will be placed close to the teacher for monitoring purposes.

B.)Students will be clued to stay on task.

C.)Students will be allowed to have assessments read aloud per IEP recommendation.

D.)Lesson plans, notes and assignments will be modified to accommodate IEP provisions.

HOMEWORK:

Homework will be assigned at the discretion of the teacher.  All students are expected to review notes each night.  In addition, all assignments left incomplete in class will be assigned as homework.
